Day 3 - The Cloud Nest

Sebelum berangkat saya bingung mau pakai baju apa (seperti biasa)> Akhirnya saya mengambil baju kemeja batik suami saya dengan motif Mega mendung khas Cirebon.

Enjoy..

Day 2: Sarong It Is!!

So sad...

Life goes on, rite?

Siap berangkat!!

Day 1 - 30 days: Inspired by Indonesia

Benoa Harbor. Can't get enough of it.

Urban Sketchers network

22 December 2012, We're heading to Benoa Harbor to observe what's going on in this area. At 9 pm we're gathering at Sea Safari Harbor at the East of Benoa Harbor. We wait for some of are friends who haven't arrived yet. While we're waiting I saw a lot of Bakso Stall in front of the paking lot of Sea Safari.

This bakso and mie ayam (chicken noodle and meatballs) is one kind of food that is very common amongst Indonesian people. The seller use a motorcycle to going around and sell this food. They bring a big box behind their vehicles with egg noodle, meatballs and the chicken broth in a big saucepan. Don't forget the stove and a 5 kilograms liquid gas tube who accessorize   their vehicles. Because it's a rainy season, they also bring their raining coat and an umbrella at the corner of their meatball box.

The appearance of the seller always quite typical. They using a polo shirt or T Shirt with long pants and they are wearing a softball cap because of the sunshine. Ussually few years back, the seller also don't use a motorcycle to go around and sell mie ayam bakso. They use traditional push cart and have their own wooden alarm, so everyone in the house could recognize their sound if they're passing by.

After everyone is coming, We rushing to the West of Benoa Harbor. We could see a different sighting at this harbor. East harbor is more for Big Cruise Boats and at the West harbor is for traditional fishing boats. We could see lots of boats moor in this harbor. It's more crowded and more people doing their activities and also hotter that the east harbor.

At last, LUNCH TIME... We're back to the east harbor to have lunch on the Sea Safari Cruise Boat. It's one a boat that usually have their special activities for tourist. They make trips for sunset dinner and some of their boats use for divers to cruise along to the other island in this archipelago such as Nusa Tenggara, Sumba, and also to Irian Jaya.

While waiting for the lunch to arrive, I draw the front deck of this boat. You can see a nice steering wheel on my drawing, special made fr the pirates (the crew of this boat).

We're having a great time today, and this is the last venue in the end of this year 2012. See you again sketching on 2013.

Enjoy..

Denpasar People's Park: Lapangan Puputan Badung

Urban Sketchers network

Lapangan Puputan Badung is one of the famous park in Denpasar Bali, Why we say that this park so famous? Because the story and history of this park and the use of this park is so earthy especially for an urban community.

There are many activities happened in this park such as chess garden in one corner of the park, in front of Bali Museum you can find lots of people, old and young playing chess. Sometimes they're also make a chess competition, sometimes they're gambling or sometimes they only exercising.

In the other side is the children playground. Many families bring their children to play in this playground. At  another side of this park, you can see some teenagers are doing marching practice. And there's this gazebo where many middle age guy gather and reading newspaper and talk about today's news. The funny thing is the news they're reading is from one newspaper that they relay from one to another.
Another view that I capture is Urban Sketcher members who  are sketching the view, landscape and activities. They're spreading around the park, from the South to North, and to the West and far East...

Well, If I remember the use of this park in the heart of Denpasar, I will remember the peoples park in Chinatown Singapore. Another park to commute...

Enjoy!

Thank you 2012

This is my first blog on 2013. I hope this year I can make more stories more sketches from my point of view. 2012 has been a BIG year for myself. My first son was born on July. He's 5 months old now and I'm preparing his first :solid food. In the same year, Urban Sketchers Bali is start to grow. From the small conversation at the terrace of our house, now our member is getting bigger. Almost 50 active sketchers that gather around with us to sketch and draw every week, even-though sometimes some people can't come consistently due to their works, activities etc. The member of our facebook members is also increasing from 15 members to 155 members. Almost everyday I have to check our group because everyday there are always one or two postings (or even more) and there are always new member that ask to join our group. How about my work? Pithecanthropus have so many new projects especially the Ketewel projects. In 2012 we start to work at Ketewel Beach so now we're viewing the paddy field, the sand, the beach and the ocean plus the dogs and cows (just like a small farm)every day at the office. 2012 has been nice to me. I have my laugh and tears, I have my 'moments' my ups and downs, I have my family, friend and foes to make myself mature. I have been so blessed and I learn from my mistakes. I hope I can do better for 2013. Cross my fingers.. Enjoy..

Together or Alone?

Urban Sketchers network
I'm an urban sketcher

This weekday, the sketching rendez-vous is continuing. So many groups is gather around with their colleagues and make a sketching schedule. They sketch everywhere. At lunch time at the restaurant or warung, at home, at the office, at coffee break time.. It's anytime, anywhere, anything they could sketch, they'll sketch.

I join several times of that rendez-vous with my husbands office colleagues from Belt Collins International Bali. On Wednesday at Depot Adi while I eat Bistik Sapi for lunch, everyone is so busy with their sketches. The only thing that so obvious to hear is Arie is sneezing all the time and everyone else is having fun with their sketch book.

On Thursday we were having lunch at MM Juice Teuku Umar and we MUST draw some people and not just the interior or exterior of the place. Why it's a MUST? because before we always draw the still life drawing, too afraid to draw the moving things such as human and animals and actually that's the challenge in urban sketching. We could capture more stories by adding some detail with humans and animals. Capturing what is happening at the moment.

On Wednesday I also sketch the view from my own office on Ketewel. I sketch alone because the office always so quiet and the staff only came once or twice a week, just like me. The difference when you draw alone is the spirit. I become mellow when I have to sketch alone... too quiet!

When you're alone, you're only have the 'conversation' with the object or you don't have any comparison. It's easier to be intrigue to sketch when you're with your friends and you could compare and also learn from the other, such as: "What the other see from the same place?" could be different with your sight, because every people have different interest. So let's draw and up to you to choose to sketch alone or together but I have my opinion, the more the merrier.

Enjoy!

What are you thinking Bli Nyoman? While everyone is busy sketching at MM Juice (6 December 2012) on Jl Teuku Umar, I saw Mr Nyoman looking around and look very confuse.. Indonesian will say: "Kenapa Clingak Clinguk?"

This is one corner of Warung Adi while we're having lunch (5 Dec 2012) with BCI friends.. I can't be too long because I came with my baby.
